Ride with Jane.
Few equestrians have influenced modern dressage education as profoundly as Jane Savoie. For more than five decades, she devoted her life to helping riders better understand their horses, improve their riding, and gain confidence through systematic, compassionate training.
Jane represented the United States in international competition, including as reserve rider at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona. She earned numerous national titles and was widely recognized not only for her competitive accomplishments but also for her extraordinary ability to teach. Whether working with Olympic hopefuls or first-time dressage riders, Jane believed every horse and rider deserved clear communication, thoughtful training, and a pathway to success.
As an accomplished author, Jane wrote several bestselling books that have become foundational resources for dressage riders around the world. Her educational DVDs, audio programs, magazine articles, and clinics reached audiences across North America and beyond, making high-quality instruction available to riders who might never have the opportunity to train with her in person.
Long before sports psychology became widely discussed in equestrian sport, Jane recognized that successful riding required training both the horse and the rider's mind. She taught practical mental strategies for building confidence, improving focus, managing competition nerves, and developing consistency—concepts that became hallmarks of her teaching and continue to benefit riders in every discipline today.
Jane's teaching philosophy emphasized kindness, patience, and understanding. She believed that great horsemanship came from clear communication, progressive training, and always putting the horse first. Her lessons were known for being practical, encouraging, and immediately useful, helping riders solve problems while building stronger partnerships with their horses.
Today, Jane's legacy lives on through the Jane Savoie Legacy Library – Ride with Jane, where her books, videos, courses, recordings, and educational materials are being thoughtfully preserved and curated with the support of her husband, Rhett Savoie. Through this project, riders can continue learning directly from Jane's timeless instruction while also supporting the future of equestrian education through contributions to The Dressage Foundation's Jane Savoie Adult Amateur Fund.
Jane often reminded her students that learning never ends. Her lessons continue to inspire riders around the world, proving that great teachers leave more than knowledge—they leave a legacy.
